The ABBA 2014 Awards Ceremony held at the City View Hotel on Thursday 30th October was nothing short of EXTRAORDINARY.

The basketball fraternity turned out in its numbers to celebrate the 33rd Anniversary of Independence for our Nation of Antigua and Barbuda, the contributions of persons who would have served as President of the Association since its inception in 1968, the life of basketball legend Noel “Nyah” Roberts, former Flyers player Cornell “Froggy” Grannum,  and basketball excellence.

Over the years the contribution of persons who have made tremendous sacrifices to ensure that basketball in Antigua and Barbuda is where it is today has never been properly acknowledged.  It was for this reason that the Executive of ABBA made the decision to recognize and honour the Past Presidents of ABBA and the great NYAH Roberts.

Video tributes were played in honour of Noel “Nyah” Roberts and Cornell Grannum, and in recognition of the contribution that Nyah Roberts played in the development of basketball in Antigua before his tragic passing 20 years ago, the Division 1 Most Valuable Player Award was renamed the Noel “Nyah” Roberts Most Valuable Player Award.

The players turned out in their numbers to collect their awards, and the Executive of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association wishes to congratulate them all.

Members of the National Team for the recently concluded Caribbean Basketball Confederation Tournament were also awarded for their contribution to the National Team.

The Corporate partners of ABBA were recognized for their contribution to ABBA, and special recognition was given to title sponsor DIGICEL who have committed their support for the 2015 season.

In all, it was a wonderful season, and preparation begins for the eagerly anticipated 2015 ABBA League commencing on Sunday January 18th 2015.
