Many persons are unaware of the struggles and hardships being experienced by persons living in our community. The Executive of ABBA has taken a position that we will do everything we can to give back to the community that has served many of us well.

The Boys Training School is an institution for juvenile boys who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. While some persons may take the position that they are bad, rude, or beyond help, this Executive has instead, decided that we should try to do more to help them.

To date, we have been assisted by one of our national team coaches Mr. Erwin Armstrong who have graciously agreed to have the boys participate in his regular coaching sessions on Saturday mornings, and the boys have enthusiastically attended. It is events like these that we believe can play a major role in socializing the boys at the Boys Training School properly.

This is just the first step in the ABBA Social Responsibility Program. The next stage involves identifying an individual to work with ABBA for the Training School, and later on, to identify other ways that we can assist in improving the lives of the boys there.

We are fully aware that the School has many needs, many of which are financially related. As we go forward, we intend to raise the awareness of the school; it’s residents and the program itself, and use basketball as a tool for change in the lives of the young men at the Boys Training School.

Basketball in Antigua & Barbuda can, and WILL be a catalyst for positive change in the lives of our young people, and the current Executive of the Basketball Association has committed to being forefront in that effort.
