A meeting convened last Friday with ABBA’s Youth Development Committee spearheaded by First Vice President, Carlton Brodie, sought to introduce the players and their parents/guardians to the coaching and management staff.

Former National Player, Mahijah Davis was named the team’s Head Coach, and will be assisted by Cedric “Supa” David. The Team’s Technical Director is Basketball icon, Carl “Bowlie” Knight, and managing the team is Mrs Oleno Knight, who will be supported by Morlan “Buju” Charles.

President of the Association, Daryll Matthew expressed commendations to the young men on being selected to be a part of the Training Squad, and urged them to work hard as they each vie for a spot on the country’s National Team.

He added that special attention would be paid to those who displayed not only exceptional basketball skills, but also good discipline and work ethic. “It is the vision of the association to produce ‘Good People’, who society respects, and not just good basketball players” Mathew stated.

At the last LIBA U19 Tournament held in 2015 in Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda placed third.

As the team sets to undergo their preparations for the upcoming tournament, the Association is making an appeal to stakeholders and the general public to support the young men, who will bear the flag of Antigua and Barbuda.

This year’s Under 19 LIBA Tournament will be held from the 14th to the 18th of August in St. Maarten.
