Max Fernandez Gunners ran an unanswered 12—0, during the first quarter of a Division 3 opening game on Wednesday night, January 21, at the Gillian Brazier Ovals Basketball Court, to finish the half 26—10 and ultimately 53—30 for the victory.
Wings, gun-shy, managed only 47 at-tempts from the field for a poor under 30 percentage shooting, coupled with a 20 percent from the line.
But it was all lack of nerves for the U-19 first-timers to the ABBA league against a seasoned and hard-core team that had just dropped from Division 1. Although it was more than comforting to have the support of the parents and other players, Wings did not control the ball as well and each turn over cost them.
It was Tyreke Lewis and Shaquille Richards who gave some spirit to the others ending with 6 and 7 pts, respectively, for the Wings.
Wings will now play New Thriving Grass Roots on Monday, January 26, at Fort Road starting at 8:00 P.M.
